Project Overview

The project comprises of Flood Irrigation Pumps and infrastructure that was a design and construct project consisting of 2 x 26” centrifugal pumps pumping out of the Darling River into a 7km Irrigation Channel leading to a 6000 megalitre Storage Dam where there was another 2 x 26” Flood pumps to lift water into the storage and pump any return water from the fields back into the storage.

This project was started back 1995 and has been developed over the last 15 years as the farm expanded to the full acreage being fully irrigated by the end of 2010.

Works Undertaken

  • Fabricate large steel cylinder vertically in the Darling Riverbank to house 2 x 26” flood pumps at the river base to minimise pump suction lift. Both pumps are then driven by 2 x 600hp Caterpillar diesel engines through a series of vertical belt drives with the motors sitting on top of the cylinder above normal flood level.

  • At the end of the 7km supply channel consists another 2 x 26” floods pumps connected to 2 diesel engines that lift the water out of the supply channel into the 6000 megalitre storage dam, these pumps are housed on top of another large steel cylinder with a series of gates to divert water to the field or into the storage as required as well pump any return tail water back into the storage.

  • Design supply and construct all required Pump housings, concrete support structures, and all associated pipework including all onsite earthworks.

  • Testing and Commissioning of both Pump Stations
